Since the launch of ADELINE ANDRÉ in 1981, together with István Dohár, the artist and fashion designer has become one of the official members of the „Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture“ in Paris.
Born in Bangui, French Equatorial Africa, the Parisian with Scottish roots was first taking art lessons before entering Dior as an assistant for the Haute Couture Collections in 1970, next to Marc Bohan.
With regular shows from 1983 onwards, André is widely known for her patented „three sleeve holes“ design, as well as the "folding robe“ (robe repliable), to name a few. She is also regularly working in Costume Design for ballet, theatre and opera,, most recently, for „La Séparation“ (choreography: Alexei Ratmansky), which premiered in February 2024 at Staatsoper Wien.
Works of André have been on display in various exhibitions, including „Annés 80“, MAD, Paris 2022; „LIFE AND LIMBS“, Swiss Institute, NYC, 2019; “L’Expérience de la couleur”, National Ceramic Museum, Serves, 2017; “The Overworked Body: An Anthology of 2000’s Dress”, Mini/Goethe-Institut Curatorial Residencies Ludow 38 and Mathew Gallery, 2017; “Les années 1990/2010”, UCAD Paris, 2010
