A legendary place of Viennese modernism

The past is not over - it can be rediscovered and visited in archives, but also revived. Such an update in several acts recently experienced the legendary Cabaret Fledermaus (1907-1913), in Vienna once a place for emancipatory and escapist tendencies with pioneering artistic design.

As part of an international cooperation, the department Collection and Archive of the University of Applied Arts Vienna succeeded in reconstructing the famous bar room of this cabaret 1:1 in 2019, and the artist group Bar du Bois developed the exhibition unter flaschen. Die Fledermaus in der Bar du Bois in 2020. This publication documents both the rediscovery of a legendary place of Viennese modernism and its current and double "resurrection".

Artistic reflection on one of the most innovative projects of the Wiener Werkstätte.
New contributions to a history of artists' bars in Vienna
With texts by Christian Höller, Barbara Lesák, Stefanie Kitzberger, Sofie Mathoi, Elana Shapira
