The photo series Thinking with Hands pursues–following Walter Benjamin– the strategy of transforming the present and future by means of changing the view of the past. The past is not a series of dead facts, but consists of living narratives and images which are susceptible for interventions. In the photo series, portraits of artists, writers and philosophers, as well as excerpts from their artistic work, are appropriated in a way that turns them into perfomative speech acts and, above all, expresses one thing: I can also otherwise. The contingency of the past and present unfolds and opens up for discussion. Thinking with Hands is photography, montage and performance all rolled into one, with standstill and movement being continuity, not opposition.
